As most of you know we have been having problems with my daughter who is adopted and has mental illness, is 20 yrs old who is living in MO unchaperoned, and off her meds since Oct. That explains it all. I really don't have to go any farther do I........
I have been hesitate to write about her, but I thought I would share now. I will spare the bad detail, not good. Sorry it's going to be long, grab a drink and some munchies...... I could write a book!
Her life has been a mess for almost a yr now, in and out of a mental hospital last year. She had been living with my parents, done some stuff and said some stuff so she messed that up. Then she was on the streets for a few day until a guy friend's mom let her live with them for 4 months, then mom decided to help by helping to get her an apt with one of her gay guy friend....who has mental illness too... Not a good match to be living together on their own. My Daughter decided to let her so called boyfriend live with her, he also had mental illness and was on probation. (my daughter can make some wise choices....not). Her and him got into a fight she left a couple days later to spend time away from each other, he left and stole her laptop, furniture, food and some other stuff. Then her and roommate got into lots of fights, he let his friends stay with him and had all kinds of people coming and going, doing drug, and God knows what else. I will spare the details, so they got their lease termination notice after being in the apt for 1 1/2 months. Police was involved and we was dealing with this mess from afar.... She call us at all hours of the night. I have been on the phone for the past month and half trying to find her help in both Texas and Missouri. Tex has better services than MO, but all her govn services is from MO and it like pulling teeth to get it switch. Since that guy at her the apt, she has had 2 other boyfriends. Thank GOD she is on the birth control shot!!!! So she left all her stuff in the apt and started staying with whoever would let her. I could go on for days but I will make it brief.......
There is not much help for mentally ill people, what a shame! My husband and I was tired of all the mess, all her phone calls of crying for help, but then not listening to us. So we decided to make an emergency road trip to MO over spring break and try to take care of some unfinished business with her..... I had 3 days to find her a safe place to live and move her in................. And guess what I DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD answered all our prayers!!!! Thank you all so much, my friends and family who prayed for us. We love you!!!!!!!!
We went to visit her case worker on Monday morning and she gave us a list of residential homes to check. The first 2 we drove on by, not too nice, made me sick at my stomach, 3rd one was on a beautiful farm in the country, OK place, but the guy told us he wouldn't take her even if he had an opening, because she is a young attractive girl and he knows how his guy are, and told me to watch out where we go, OK that scared us both... Oh I forgot to tell you I was doing this all alone just me and Jo, no husband help at all..... He told us to try his sis-in-law place she had mostly women...tried her no opening, but try this other place....so we did, they had an opening and it was a beautiful place, but.....most of the people was old and she would become bored and not stay, Jo said that was OK she would make it exciting and have wheel chair races. :0) She told us about one other place who deals with mental illness and keeps young people .....This was our last shot. We went in there and told the guy what we needed, he told us to please have a seat and he would show us around. Finally he came out of his office told us he had a couple opening and showed us a double bed room (for roommates) and he had one girl that just moved out over the weekend and thought there was stuff left in the room but it would be open in couple day. we went down the hall to the room and Jo got very excited when we walked in because the rm # was 22, her dads favorite #. We walked in and the room was completely empty and cleaned up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO we talked a little and both Jo and I like everything he was saying.I told him I came from TX and I needed her moved in by Wed. He said all he needed was paperwork from her psychiatrist and she can move in Tuesday. So we went straight to her dr office and they faxed it them that evening. We moved stuff in Tuesday, bought stuff she need Tues, did 4 heavy duty loads of laundry at the laundry mat, got to my moms at 11:30pm, and had everything put up and room organized on Wednesday by 1:30 with not much help from ADHD Jo, she couldn't focus. The place was an answered prayer, ..........has own big room (we are calling it her apt) w/ TV,bed, tall dresser, bookshelf, night stand and still room for a love seat and small dorm fridge. She has a microwave, dishes and food to cook,a walk-in shower , we bought duck shower curtain. She can decorate the apt the way she wants, she has cleaning service, free laundry mat & beauty salon, 3 hot meals and they will make sure she takes her meds. She can go anywhere she wants any time, she just has to sign out and tell them where she is going and be back by curfew, if not staying all night with someone. People can come visit her and hang out with her, she even ask if her friend can stay all night, he told her he would have to see how both act before he says yes. She has it made, everything she was needing, a safe clean place to call her home, someone to make sure she takes her meds, good food to eat, and a little freedom.
Talked to her today, She is doing good and likes her place. FOOD is good.
I will get her address and if you like to send something I know she would be very surprised to receive encouraging words from you all.
HALLELUJAH!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!
